Japanese sword in Shin-Gunto army officer's mounts with a blade measuring 25-3/4", wavy temper line and silver engraved habaki. Tang with sword smith's signature reading "Hizen (no) Kuni Ju Yoshitsuga". This older sword was presented to a departing officer in 1937 and the left tang reads, in two lines: "Presented to Mr Masaura By The Residents Of This Town With Deep Appreciation In 1937. Oura Township Sage Prefecture". CONDITION: Blade is mostly bright with a few cloudy areas and exhibiting a number of scattered edge nicks becoming heavier near the tip. Handle is missing all fittings and grip lace. Scabbard exhibits about 75% original brown paint and retains a 7" section of the leather covering. Although the condition of the blade leaves much to be desired, it is extremely uncommon to encounter a Japanese sword with a presentation on the tang. DG
