Full tang bowie knife featuring nickel silver guards stamped with an ornate foliate design. Deeply checkered handle scales of dark horn. Clip point blade stamped on ricasso A. DAVY & SONS EXCHANGE WORKS SHEFFIELD. Morocco leather sheath with gold leaf decoration and nickel silver tip and throat. Circa 1856-1860's. A. Davy (became A. Davy & Sons in 1856) was a respected maker of high quality bowies, dirks, and folding knives of the bowie knife era. CONDITION: In excellent condition overall with no signs of insect damage to horn, and guards with little sign of wear or damage. Blade shows patches of old pitting but has been cleaned for an improved appearance. Tip of sheath cracked but intact.
