Very nice WWI USMC 5th Marine Brigade painted "Brodie" helmet. The front of the helmet is painted with the 5th Marine Brigade insignia. The helmet is marked "HS 57" on the interior rim. The insignia is a red painted EGA with a green V in the center denoting that this helmet was worn by a member of the 5th Marine Brigade's supply company. There does not appear to be a diamond or square background so it is unknown if this marine was part of the 11th regiment or the 13th regiment. The helmet retains its original liner which is secured to the helmet by the leather chin strap and British style chinstrap bales. CONDITION: The helmet exhibits much of its original paint with a few scattered chips and scratches. The painted insignia is mostly undisturbed. The liner is nearly complete but fragile. The leather components display cracking and holes throughout which are most evident on the sweatband. Overall good. JD
