Lot consists of: (A) 1622 document signed by Charles I as Prince of Wales at upper left, “Charles P.” Son of James I, born 1600, crowned 1625, dismissed parliament in 1629, ruled 11 years on his own, at war with recalled parliament 1642, defeated in the English Civil War 1648 and executed 1649. CONDITION: Very good. (B) 1698 dated receipt signed by the Earl of Oxford for 500 pounds received from officers of the Tally Court signed at bottom right “Oxford.” This was Aubrey De Vere, the 20th and last Earl of Oxford. A Royalist and army officer, imprisoned for plotting against Cromwell and later supported the return of Charles II. On his death without male offspring in 1703 the title died out. CONDITION: Very good. Ex-Lattimer Collection with James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity.
