The Model A 1902 Nambu is better known as the “Grandpa” Nambu. They were accepted for service in 1904, with production delayed until 1906. They were produced at Koishikawa Arsenal in Tokyo and were available for both commercial and private officer purchase. While the Army allowed officers to purchase the pistol privately, they were prohibitively expensive, and only approximately 2400 were manufactured before production ceased. The “grandpa” is further distinguished by the small trigger guard (which has also led to the nickname “peanut guard”), wood bottom magazine, and slot for a holster/stock; a concept similar to the Mauser C96, which influenced some of the designs of internals as well. Matching serial numbers observed on trigger, bolt lock, firing pin carrier, interior of cocking knob, recoil spring guide, twice on bolt, locking block, barrel assembly on fore lug, right side of frame, both grip scales, and magazine. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the vast majority of the original bluing, with some scattered marks from handling and storage throughout. Areas of very fine oxidation at ejection port, recoil guide rod housing, front grip strap and safety, and scattered on some sharp edges. Some thinning to sharp edges, some through to silver, most notable on the ejector rod housing. Grips are very good with some abrasions toward top and smooth around button on left scale; left scale is also missing a small chip ahead of button. Mechanically fine, bore with heavily softened rifling with some frosting and oxidation towards muzzle.
