Originally manufactured in 1933 and updated with a "6-42" dated 4 groove Springfield barrel. USMC No. 10 front sight and ladder rear. Unnumbered, blued "NS" marked nickel steel bolt. Walnut C stock with checkered tool trap butt plate. Handguard modified for use with a scope mount block. Receiver is likewise fitted with a base on which a nice, early "USMC-SNIPER" 8X Unertl scope serial number "1648" is mounted. Scope includes thread on lens covers. Although this rifle falls into the known serial number range 1,200,000 to 1,500,000 as noted by Bruce Canfield, it appears to have been professionally assembled sometime later. It is accompanied by an original copy of a December 8, 1948 Civilian Marksmanship order form listing this rifle by serial number as $15 unserviceable grade shipped to a Alex Horozan of New York. Unserviceable in this context usually meant uninspected, many such rifles shipping out as perfectly serviceable arms. CONDITION: Very good overall. Rifle retains significant portions of arsenal finishes with some expected wear and light freckling. Stock is very good with scattered impressions and an area of concentrated wear on the left side below the action. Very good, well defined bore. ME reads approximately 1.5. TE reads over 2. Fine mechanics. Scope is very fine with crystal clear glass. A handsome rifle.
