Cased Westley Richards .450/400 NE droplock double rifle with 26” barrels. Length of pull of 14 11/16” to a red rubber recoil pad. The rifle sports a Prince of Wales stock with a case color hardened trapdoor grip cap, double triggers with Westley’s iconic snap lever, doll’s head third bite, ejectors, bolted safety, gold inlaid “BOLTED” and “SAFE” ahead of the safety catch, serial number engraved on the bottom strap, engraved top and bottom ribs, hooded front sight with a folding moon sight, quarter rib rear sight with one standing (100 yards) and 2 folding (200 and 300 yards) platinum lined leaves, vacant silver oval on the toe line, and a Deeley forend release. Beaded pancake style cheek piece for a right-handed shooter, checkered grip and forend, a widow’s peak horn forend tip, and sling swivel studs. The barrels of this circa 1903 rifle read “WESTLEY RICHARDS 178 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. GUN MAKERS BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY KING EDWARD VII”. The barrel flats show Birmingham nitro proofs and are stamped "CORDITE 60 – 400 MAX", "400 EX”, and “450” is stamped ahead of the barrel flats. Housed in a brass cornered green canvas case with newer straps, maker’s label, snap caps, oil pot, a white container with spare front sights, a small grease container, brass cleaning rods, jags, mops, brushes, and a multitool with two turnscrews and a punch. Aesthetically pleasing case color hardened action with “WESTLEY RICHARDS.” inlaid in gold on both sides and blued furniture. Most all case colors remain. CONDITION: This pre-Great War rifle remains in excellent condition as fully refurbished. The rifle retains all of its original parts and remains in its original configuration. The rifle is slightly off face and the ejectors are slightly out of time. A chance to own an all-round caliber double from an iconic maker with the droplock configuration!
