Fine example of William "Bill" Scagel's craftsmanship in the form of this bowie style knife with a clip point blade. The reverse cheek is marked "W. SCAGEL / HANDMADE" in small lettering with Bill's signature kris mark. Only the left side of the mark is visible. The blade was most likely polished long ago and exhibits a gray patina with blemishes. Small brass guard with single downturned quillon. Stacked leather washer grip with red, black, and brass spacers. Large shaved antler pommel retained by a steel pin on each side. The handle exhibits patina and wear associated with use and storage. The knife is complete with its brown leather scabbard that features a braided border. Large leather belt loop remains intact. Scabbard remains supple overall with scattered scuffs and scratches. A great example of a Scagel knife. CONDITION: Good. This knife was obtained at Scagel's property by John Gordon Breland, who was a policeman in Muskegon, Michigan. Upon his retirement, he did odd carpentry jobs, one of which was expanding Scagel's home or workshop. Breland was a lifelong hunter and selected these items from what Scagel had on hand in his shop.
