A great example of an early 20th century bowie knife crafted by legendary knife maker William "Bill" Scagel. This hunter features bowie style blade with a pronounced clip point blade. The reverse cheek is marked "W. SCAGEL / HANDMADE" in small lettering with Bill's signature kris mark. The blade exhibits evidence of an older cleaning. Small brass guard with single downturned quillon. Stacked leather washer grip with red, black, and aluminum spacers. Large shaved antler pommel retained by a brass pin on each side. The handle remains tight and exhibits light wear with patina. A great example of a Scagel knife. CONDITION: Good. This knife was obtained at Scagel's property by John Gordon Breland, who was a policeman in Muskegon, Michigan. Upon his retirement, he did odd carpentry jobs, one of which was expanding Scagel's home or workshop. Breland was a lifelong hunter and selected these items from what Scagel had on hand in his shop.
