This Beretta 38/42 presents extremely well, with the matching wood stock with nice original markings being a particular standout. The Beretta 38/42 machine gun is essentially a Model 38A simplified to be less expensive and time consuming to produce. Many of the parts interchange with the 38A, and, in fact, in 1944 the Germans were procuring (purchasing) Model 38/42 guns from Beretta as MP-40 production had ceased in favor of MP-44/STG 44 production. The Beretta 38/42, as well as the Model 38A, proved to be one of the most effective pistol caliber machine guns of WWII. The dual trigger feature enabled the firer to choose semi-automatic or fully automatic modes of fire. Magazine capacity was 40 rounds, and the design is very reliable. Early production guns had fluted barrels as this one has, with an integral compensator, and a simple two-position flip-up rear sight. Markings on the receiver are limited to caliber and serial number with a “CE” prefix. Procurement office cartouche is present on matching (3207) stock. Bolt in this machine gun is an un-numbered 38A bolt, which will slow down he rate of fire compared with the 38/42 bolt. There are 38/42 bolts readily available should an owner desire one. No magazine present. Electronic NFA registry indicates, “FLEMING, WILLIAM DBA FLEMING FIREARMS” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the machine gun collection of William “Happiness is a Warm Machine Gun” Fleming. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine refinish upon remanufacture with some slight light pitting under the finish of the rear tube. Stock is extremely fine with some light handling marks. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. This is a select-fire machine gun. They are extremely popular as recreational machine guns with magazines and parts being more or less available. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2025-09-112.
