While there is no Colt letter nor any provenance, the back strap on this revolver is engraved "JACK HOXIE". He was an accomplished rodeo star and appeared with several Wild West shows of the period but made his name as a silent motion picture star in the 1920s, most of which were westerns. This gun is accompanied by five pictures where you can plainly see the ivory handles on a Model 1878 in Hoxie's possession. This particular gun was built in 1897. It is a silver plated gun with Colt medallion ivory grips. It features the one line Colt barrel legend and is stamped "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side. It is beautifully engraved in American scroll similar to that of Cuno Helfricht with nearly full coverage. The screws, top of hammer and trigger are peacock blue. There is a very similar revolver on page 200 in the 1878 Colt book. CONDITION: Excellent as finished in the factory style. Aside from a bit of cylinder face burn, this gun in in spectacular condition. Mechanically sound. Bore is bright.
