Circa 16th century. Piece is entirely constructed of hand forged steel. Head of mace is attached to the central part of the shaft by a pin at the base of the head, which goes through the shaft. The head of the mace, when attached to the shaft, as it is a totally different piece, spins on the shaft. When the pin is removed, the head of the mace slides up and off the shaft. Part of the shaft that holds the head of the mace, is perforated with many holes, large and small in alternating spiraling lines. The four-sided tip of the mace, is decoratively engraved. Shaft of the mace is all steel, starting from base, and is spiral chiseled, in alternating grooved and raised bands, for 8 - 1/2 inches of the overall length. The top portion is deeply chiseled in a chevron design. The head of the mace, incorporates six very unusual flanges, with arrowhead-spiked, reinforced central points. All six flanges feature a touch mark of a shield with a cross within and the initials, "H.K.". The top and bottom of each flange end in beautiful steel roundels. All chiseling is very deep with hardly any wear. Minor areas of pitting but nice lamination throughout.
