Circa 1575. German. Etched all over with very nice high comb. Family crest is etched in center of comb and entire comb and bowl are etched in classic German strap-work enhanced with acanthus leaf. Large oval panel on one side of two-piece bowl depicting a man in stylistic armor holding banner is quite possibly a romanticized depiction of the owner. Large oval panel on opposite side depicts a very elaborate panoply of arms and armor. Brim is etched all around with acanthus leaf decor surrounded by a raised rope border. Two rivet holes, all others are intact. Moderate wear on a few spots of the etching and light to medium pitting overall, does not detract from the beauty of the etching.
Condition: (Excellent).
Item Dimensions: 13" T.
