Portion of printed warrant and instructions to an unnamed officer for enlisting recruits in a “company of foot belonging to Congresses Own Regiment.” Laid down on old paper. Signed at bottom brown ink: “Albany the 15th December 1776 Moses Hazen.” Hazen had French and Indian War service with Rogers Rangers, acquired a British Army commission, and amassed land holdings in Quebec, was active in the 1775 invasion of Canada and other enterprises against it, commanded the 2nd Canadian or “Congress’s Own” regiment, was frequently at odds with Benedict Arnold, took part in the Philadelphia Campaign, was promoted to Brigadier General 1781, in time to command a brigade at Yorktown. CONDITION: Good. Heading missing but instructions are all there, numbered I through VII.
