1900, GERMANY: The Polyphon style #5 comes with an automatic changer, saucer style bells, and an original base with storage. Playing 56cm (22 - 1/2") discs across 118 teeth and 16 bells on a duplex comb configuration. The unique feature of the style #5 is the selector bar where the patron can select the tune to be played from the tune cards, drop a coin and watch the disc load and play. The box stores 10 discs for play, and has additional storage in the original bottom cabinet. CONSIDERATIONS: The wonderful walnut cabinet has a great finish showing only minor wear from handling. The mechanics of the music box are fully operative, and although these early changers can be temperamental, this box plays upon coin deposit with great regularity. No defects are noted with the comb or with the bells, and the instrument comes with 14 discs. A beautiful music box with great tone and sound.
