A tastefully framed letter that is signed by French aristocrat and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War, Marquis de La Fayette. The letter is written in English and signed "Lafayette", dated February 11, 1829. Written to Mr. Lawrence, a US diplomat, with integral address-leaf. Lafayette's former aide-de-camp, "knows your relations have been victims of the unwarrantable seizure of Antwerp and applying for justice, or rather Reparation from this Government..." The aide's wife is pursuing a similar claim and suggests that the claims be joined. Matted in white with a small bust print of Lafayette and contained under glass in an old black wooden frame. This historic document was once part of the John K. Lattimer Collection. The letter is accompanied by a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: Seal tear on the address leaf with scattered light blemishes that are typical of old paper including noticeable creases. Frame with light handling wear.
