REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD FRENCH CUTTOE OR HUNTING SWORD WITH SCABBARD.

For a similar example, see plate 104.S on page 96 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. Straight single edged blade with shallow wide center fuller, clip point and a ricasso at the top. Fullers have an engraved stag on one side and a lid hog on the other. Ricasso engraved on both side with scrolls, geometric designs and a fleur-de-lis. Silver s-shaped guard with French proofs on each side. Relief. chased dog head quillons. Ebony grip with integral pommel carved with moldings. Reeded sections on grip. Complete with its original brown leather covered scabbard with reppouse silver mounts. Scabbard with tooled "x" designs. CONDITION: Blade polished and shows some darker areas and scattered pitting. Some of ricasso filed off on both sides. Hilt tight to blade. Grip excellent with one age crack. Scabbard has a repair and top mount shows some denting. Some tears to edges and scuffing.
