Swords of this style were often carried by German mercenaries fighting in the Colonies. For a similar example, see plate 85.S on page 90 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The sword features a slightly curved single fuller English style blade. Paktong hilt and pommel with relief chased motifs including cherub heads, a stag, dogs and busts on the quillon. Pommel has 4 large relief chased heads. Stag grip. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with heavier brown patina in low and protected areas. Series of "battle nicks" on cutting edge. Green felt washer at top of blade. Hilt retains a pleasing mellow patina. Grip excellent.
