For another example with this hilt, see "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann on page 162 plate 301.S. This circa 1750-1770 saber features a straight French diamond section blade. The brass guard is round with forward curled quillon on top. Waffle pattern counter guard on right side that attaches to large ball pommel. Grip wrapped with braided brass wire. CONDITION: Blade mostly bright. Brass retains a pleasing mustard patina. Grip wrap slightly loose. French cavalry sabers are exceedingly rare. A very nice example.
