35 - 3/4" blade with fuller that measures 11"; letters visible in fuller but complete word illegible (R distinctly clear, and what appears to be an E or an F; possibly Ferrara?). Blade was originally double-edged but has been ground to a flat back. Stirling style thin rounded bands with pierced geometrics and hearts. Shagreen grip with one strand of braided wire, too short for either side of the grip. Quillon curls towards blade. Ovoid pommel with 5 sections and a 4 pointed star engraved. A period wooden core leather wrapped scabbard is included with 2 hangers, slightly too short for the blade. PROVENANCE: Peter Finer, 1995 Catalogue, Item 203; Earlshall Castle, Scotland. CONDITION: Metal has an even chocolate patina, with some flashes of gunmetal grey on blade. Traces of old white infill in fuller script, and a light lacquer coating. 2 prominent chips on cutting edge. Guard has some scattered oxidation but is solid. Scabbard with numerous chips and handling marks throughout. Sword on the whole is somewhat loose.
