36" barrel, .41bore-percussionThis fine half stock sporting rifle is signed Stutsman/Dayton. The lock was made by Jacob Kunz. This was a finely crafted half stock sporting rifle dating to the mid 19th century, featuring a full octagon heavy barrel with a full buckhorn rear sight and dove tail front, has a long tang which is fully engraved as is the breech. The hammer has the engraved fish and the lock exhibits lovely delicate scroll engraving, the walnut half stock exhibits beautiful grain and is finely checkered at the wrist with a horn forend tip. All of the accents are finished in a nickel silver to include the trigger guard, decorative stock thimble, butt plate and patch box (which features fine engraving). Has double set triggers with a cheek piece, the wrist has a cellous side plate reinforcement. There is a similar brass/silver repair forward of the trigger guard on both sides, all of the work was performed during the period of its original use. It is an extremely handsome sporting rifle that has a great look that is maker signed.
