Manufactured from 1855-57 by the Massachusetts Arms Company in Chicopee specifically for the British Government for use in the Crimean War (1853-1856) It is estimated that approximately 2000 of these carbines were shipped. They exhibit numerous British proofs along with the Queen Victoria VR crown on the action along with the Mass. Arms legend. The Greene's Patent legend is stamped on upper tang. This carbine features the Maynard's tape priming system and is maker marked as well. Other features include the right side patch box, the single large round saddle ring, dual triggers, the forward trigger operates solely to release barrel for loading, an octagon to round barrel, a dovetailed front sight, a folding ladder rear sight and a walnut stock. CONDITION: Fine. This is a very clean and crisp gun. The barrel from octagon forward retains a minimum of 85% bright factory blue. The barrel breech is patina retaining some bright blue forward of the hammer. The stock is solid with usual sundry impressions and one small chip at comb on right side. Mechanically sound. The rifled bore is strong and bright.
