(A) COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER
Produced in 1863, this revolver has a one line barrel address. Frame and hammer are case colored. The frame has no patent date. The grips are one piece walnut. All numbers are matching, with the exception of the wedge. Various inspector initials appear on the breech, cylinder and top of back strap. The left grip panel has a three letter cartouche present, but illegible. This Model Colt Model 1860 Army is one of the very few that was arsenal refinished and issued to the US Cavalry for use immediately post-Civil War for the Indian Wars. The Model 1860 continued being issued far into the 1870s and saw extensive use on the western plains by US Troopers and in the South by occupation troops until the Southern States reentered the Nation in 1877. The distinctive case colors and and distinctive metal polish on the barrel and cylinder are indicative of the US Arsenal reworks of the period. A period holster is included. CONDITION: The revolver has been arsenal refinished, and retains brilliant case colors on the hammer and more subtle colors on the frame. Case color is evident on the loading lever as well. The bore is bright with light frost in the grooves. The hammer notches are present and the mechanics are solid and lock up is tight.
