Like most cleaned and refurbished Colt US Cavalry revolvers that were altered around the 1890 period, this gun has mixed numbers. The frame is number 120357. The trigger guard is number 50586 with HN (Henry Nettleton) inspector stamp. The back strap is number 6808 with A (Ainsworth) inspector stamp at top. The cylinder number is 0385 with HN Nettleton stamp & proof P. There is an S&O stamped on back of cylinder. The barrel is number 5499. The barrel has Colt one line barrel address. The frame has three line patent address with U.S. stamp. Grips are one piece walnut. The ejector rod head is second type. Finish is standard blue and case color. This gun has been partially restored since 1890. The trigger guard has the VP proof stamp meaning is was proofed for smokeless powder sometime around 1904 or later. In addition, the serial number font is incorrect as is the HN stamp which was done in a wide block font so this is a later trigger guard that was re-stamped. The barrel lacks an inspector and has been re-roll die stamped. The mainspring is a replacement. Also, a few screws have been replaced. CONDITION. The barrel has had some wiped on finish. The cylinder retains about 60% of the arsenal applied blue. The frame retains about 30% case colors, some quite strong with the balance having pattered out. The hammer shows some strong color. The frame patent dates are weak but legible. Grips have been refinished and cannot read inside pencil number. The action indexes but is clunky and leaving a deeper than normal drag line. The bore is sharp but frosted. All that said, it is a nice looking gun with clean appearance. This gun comes with a saddle leather quality Wild Bill (Cleaver) holster. It is a double loop , fringed, bead decorated with a silver cross. It is in excellent shape.
