Thomas was a cousin of the far more illustrious Joseph Manton, both London gunmakers. Thomas was active until 1825 and these pistols appear to have been made later. This matching set of pistols features octagon barrels with Damascus finish and are engraved MANTON LONDON. The engraved back action locks are stamped T. Manton. possibly not Thomas but using this famous name. The blued trigger guards are engraved. The heavy German silver pommels are engraved and fixed with traps. Both have attached metal pivoting loading rods. Both have silver dovetailed front sights with fixed rear. The walnut stocks are checkered and have small escutcheon at wrist with German silver inlay on back straps. Barrels have two silver wedding bands at breech. Hammers and rear tangs are also engraved. CONDITION: Fine. All metal is a soft gun metal hue patina. All legends are sharp. Stocks are fine with finish over the checkering. Mechanically sound. Smooth bores are fairly clean.
