Blued octagonal barrel with full Gastinne Renette address, dovetailed front and blade rear sights, breech and barrel tang engraved with foliage and leaves. Bolted front action lock engraved en suite. Finely formed hammer engraved en suite. All screws engraved. The butt with iron buttcap, engraved en suite. The ebony half stock finely carved at forend. Wrist beautifully checkered and carved with acanthus leaves. Steel trigger guard engraved en suite with finger rest. CONDITION: Barrel retains most of an old, probably period, refinish. Steel parts only lightly patinated with no significant rust and retain some of the original French Grey finish. Ebony stock extremely crisp with ideal checkering and no visible defects and only the most minor marks. Nipple is in excellent condition, action works properly. Multi-groove rifled bore is excellent. A fine French target pistol made for perhaps the most famous mid-19th century Parisian gunsmith and purveyor of fine arms to the French nobility mentioned in numerous French novels.
