This is one of the ultra rare first 300 1892 rifles ever made. The rarest features are the brass tip cleaning rod and the solid front band with the rod guide hole. All correct 1892 features include the flat muzzle, the 1892 rear sight with 600 yard mark on side, the 1892 handguard, the early fire blue one piece extractor without the pinned forward piece, "SWP 1894" cartouche on left side with script P at base of wrist, the blued smooth steel butt plate with no trap door, three swivels, the serrated bolt sleeve, thin wrist, and type 1 sight blade. The receiver has the 1894 Springfield legend with serial number. The survival rate for these first 300 rifles has not been determined, but most were updated in the 1896 Arsenal recall. Rifle comes with an equally rare 1894 dated US bayonet with metal scabbard and hanger. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel is a smooth thin blue. The solid front band is a dull matte blue. The frame retains most of the blue with scattered freckling and some light salt and pepper, The extractor retains the majority of bright fire blue. The loading gate is textured patina. The stock is fine with usual scattered dings and impressions and a clearly visible cartouche. The rifling is well defined but frosted. An incredible survivor.
