John Border was a maker of percussion full-stocked rifles between 1856 and 1864 in Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Heavy rifled octagon barrel. Classic Bedford county lockplate inscribed "J B" in center for John Border. Double set triggers. Figured tiger maple stock of familiar Bedford County form. Plain brass hardware. CONDITION: Barrel and lock retain a dark brown patina, some pitting at breech. Brass retains a dark mustard patina. Stock shows original patina with some scattered marks from use. A very clean rifle.
