Lot consists of: (A) The engraved back action locked is engraved T. Martin. There was a Thompson Martin who worked in Elizabeth, PA. from 1839 through 1861. The 40" octagon barrel is not maker marked. This rifle features a dovetailed blade front sight with a dovetailed small leaf rear sight. The trigger guard, butt plate and the four piece patch box are all brass. Sports double set triggers. The full length stock is striped. The three trumpets and forearm tip are also brass. CONDITION: Very good. All iron hardware is deep patina with some pitting and abrasion near the nipple. Set triggers are working. The .36 diameter bore is rifled but dark. The handsome stock shows a period repair at right wrist. (B) The 40" octagon barrel on this rifle is engraved LND. and features a blade front sight with a small leaf rear sight. The lock is not maker marked and is lightly engraved. The trigger guard and butt plate are brass and fitted with double set triggers. The full length stock is a beautiful piece of striped maple. There is no patch box but the right side of stock has an 1 3/4" German silver plate that is engraved with buildings and ships. The three trumpets are German silver as is the engraved 5 1/2" palm plate. In addition, there are three German silver engraved decorative plates. The German silver forearm tip is also engraved. CONDITION: Very good. The stock is lovely showing minor impressions and light dings with fine hand rubbed finish. The hammer will not cock so condition of set triggers cannot be determined. The barrel is a homogenous patina. The .38 caliber rifled bore is well defined with some minor residue.
