British type Greene carbine made by Massachusetts Arms Co. in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts circa 1855-1857. Scarce with reportedly, only about 2,000 made. Most interesting is the odd-twisting barrel action and Maynard patent priming device. Features correct 18" barrel with 16-sided hand grasp section in center of barrel, standard military ladder type volley sight, in .54 caliber with 3-groove rifling, and English inspection marks on barrel grasp, barrel at breech, bottom of receiver, and trigger guard. Standard straight grain walnut stock with steel buttplate, inspection-marked patch box, and English inspection mark on bottom of stock near lower tang. CONDITION: Excellent with traces of blue remaining on barrel with balance turned to a pleasing blue-brown patina. Heavy pitting near muzzle. Stock is good to very good with numerous dents and dings from use. Action works correctly and locks tightly. Bore is very good with sharp rifling. -TN-
