This interesting fusil is built with a lightened US 1816 musket barrel, the breech dated "1822" with sunken eagle head and intaglio "P" proofs. Reconverted flintlock with engraved, stepped plate marked "J. RIDOUT & CO.". Full length stock with silver barrel key escutcheons, engraved brass rigger guard, and brass butt plate. Wrist has a silver escutcheon inscribed "JK" with a border of silver wire inlay. The period iron ram rod is retained by a pair of brass thimbles and mount. A well fitting, petite socket bayonet is included with 15 - 1/4" fullered blade. CONDITION: Very good. Metal has a pleasant brown gray patina with some mottling. Lock is reconverted and has added finish. Stock is cleaned with a few light split and scattered impressions. Some repaired splitting around the tang. Fine mechanics.
