Jonathan Dunmeyer worked in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, just west of Bedford County. This rifle features a rifled octagon barrel. The lockplate is unmarked. Double set triggers. Foliate scroll engraved brass four-piece patchbox with 4 piercings. Engraved brass classic unique Dunmeyer sideplate. Tiger maple stock with incise-carved scrolls on left side of buttstock, on both sides of wrist, and around barrel tang. Some more simple incised carving elsewhere. Rope burned wood ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with corrosion at breech. Lock partially cleaned and shows heavy pitting. Brass retains a mustard patina, trigger guard return repaired. Stock very good with age cracks, one large in front of lock and scattered marks from use.
