This rare rifle retains all the 1892 features and was never part of the 1896 upgrade. This rifle was made in 1895. The cartouche on the left side is dated 1895 with JSA stamp for Joseph A. Adams. It has the type two front band, double strap, with the integral rod cut guide. Other 1892 features include the serrated bolt sleeve, the early single piece extractor without pinned end section, smooth edge extractor screw, no trap in the smooth butt plate, flat muzzle, the 1892 rear sight with the 600 yard side mark good to 1900 yards and the 1892 hand guard. The frame is dated 1894. The leather sling is correct single brass frog type. In addition, this rifle comes with an 1895 dated US bayonet with metal scabbard and hanger. CONDITION: Very good. Metal is mostly a crisp homogenous grey patina with some strong blue on extractor, rear band and bright blue on butt plate. All legends are sharp. The stock is excellent with just minor impressions and small handling marks. The bore is well defined but frosted.
