An extremely fine and rare Colt factory presented, factory engraved 1855 Root Model revolver, serial number 4550, for 1855. Presented by the inventor, Col. Colt, to Peter Dennis. This lovely factory engraved and presented Root Model revolver is an extreme rarity, as are all genuine revolvers presented by Col. Samuel Colt himself. Barrel retains most of its original bright bluing, with minor losses on one flat and around front sight. Frame retains nearly all its original bright bluing, cylinder has almost its original blue with some extremely minor erosion around nipple areas, but perfect scene and easily read Colt's Patent banner. All screws are engraved. Hammer retains some darkened case colors. Hammer spur deluxe engraved, featuring five dots. Backstrap inscription is superbly cut, and is a textbook example of this extraordinarily rare feature. The cylinder pin is beautifully checkered. Loading lever retains traces of case coloring, especially at bottom. Factory deluxe walnut grips retain virtually all their original piano varnish with no chips. Gun is cased in a mahogany case with brown felt lining. Colt's patent mold with most of its original lacquer and considerable gilding on top and spout. Exterior of case very fine. All Colt factory presentations from Samuel Colt are extremely rare and highly desirable, this is an excellent example of these.
