United States Marked pistol usually referred to as a "Ship's Pistol" made by one of several makers between 1797 and 1799. Round smoothbore barrel with no sights marked at rear "(Eagle)" over "P" and "US" stampings. Flint lock marked "United States" at rear and remnants of "Ketland and Co." in script below pan. Lock is stamped internally "M. Ketland & Co.". Brass sideplate with iron belt holder. Walnut stock with brass hardware.
