The fine display wooden case is marked in gold on the inside of the lid "E. WELLS MAKER NEW YORK 1837". The matched pair of pistols are not signed although are very nicely made. They feature rifled browned Damascus octagon to round barrels with case colored and engraved back action locks, hammers, and trigger guards, fixed front and rear sights, swivel captured metal ramrods, one piece walnut stocks with checkered grips, metal pommels with cap trap and lanyard rings. Both pistols are stamped "2827" on inside base of grips. The case is outfitted with a lacquered bag flask, an iron single cavity bullet mold, two wood and brass powder measures, two wood handle tools and an F. Joyce cap tin. CONDITION: Excellent. Both pistols retain the majority of their finish exhibiting lovely Damascus pattern, strong case colors, and excellent stocks showing minor impressions. Both exhibit tight working actions with crisp as new nipples. The bores are bold with minimal residue. This set of pistols obviously have seen very little use.
