Classic Holland & Holland big game rifle in THE classic caliber has tapered round barrel fitted with matted, quarter rib holding one standing, and one folding leaf express rear sight. It also has partially sleeved-on sling eye and sleeved-on front sight ramp which holds silver bead covered by H&H proprietary folding protector. Breech reinforce is engraved "Holland's .375 MAGNUM RIMLESS CARTRIDGE". Area is also stamped with London nitro proofs for 300 grain bullet. Mauser Model 98 standard length action with stippled top of receiver ring and magazine ears, is fitted with Recknagel scope bases and stamped with serial number on left sidewall. Action has been opened to accept .375 H&H cartridge. Bolt has had handle forged down for low scope mounting, and knob turned upward and hole drilled in top, in typical H&H style. A Buehler low scope safety has been installed, along with a commercial trigger. Steel dropbox bottom metal with hinged floorplate engraved "4 Ctges" has button release in trigger guard bow, which is also engraved with serial number. Rifle has been fitted with H&H type takedown system with large screw slotted for coin in front of bottom metal, removal of which allows barrel and action to be tipped out of stock. Stock of nicely marbled European walnut features classic Holland styling with right hand shadow line cheekpiece, case hardened steel trap grip cap (spare front sight in trap), recoil reinforcing bolt, and point pattern checkering. A gold oval engraved with monogram "GJP" (?) and a sling eye are on toe line. Stock measures 14-1/8" over thin leather covered pad. A Zeiss Diavari - Z 1.5 - 6 30mm scope with three post reticle is in Recknagel QD rings. Fine as completely refinished. Metal parts retain nearly all of a good quality rust blue. Small parts are temper blued. Stock retains nearly all of a well done oil finish, checkering re-cut. Bore is very fine, a bit dark in grooves. Action is smooth. Relatively new scope is excellent, with a few marks in lacquer, optically clear. Weight without scope: 8 lbs. 11 oz. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
