One of the rarest of British machine guns is presented here. The is an original Sten Mark II S (designating “Silencer”) machine gun, as registered with 2 IRS numbers, one for the gun and one for the silencer. This gun is particularly attractive in is originality with “shoelace” canvas pad over white insulating pad on the silencer to protect the firer’s hand from the heat of continuous firing. 3 flat pan-head screws are spaced in a triangle at the muzzle which will keep the canvas covered pad from riding forward in front of the muzzle. Close examination reveals that the silencer body and barrel housing which screws onto the trunnion are matching assembly numbers, “168”. Top of magazine housing is marked “STEN MK II” over an earlier, “STEN MK I” marking. Underside of magazine well is marked with manufacturer (S & S) with number and illegible earlier marking above a broad arrow proof. IRS registration number on left side of receiver. Original specially lightened bolt present within the receiver as well as shortened mainspring. A common nail bent over is in place to hold the magazine housing detent in place. Set screw which would normally hold the silencer to the barrel house in not present. No magazine present. Electronic NFA registry indicates “UNKNOWN” as the manufacturer, with “MARK II STEN” as the model of the machine gun, with the Silencer manufacturer indicated as, “STEN”. IRS registration numbers are consecutive indicating they were requested at the same time. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original finish turned a pleasing brown and grey patina, with more grey to the shoulder loop with some scale to the top where it would contact the shoulder. Bore is fair to good with evidence of quite a bit of firing. Silencer also has firing residue but is all original. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are fine, with good spring tension. THESE ARE NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEMS AND REQUIRE BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. EACH OF THESE ITEMS ARE FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE.
