Morphy’s is very fortunate to be able to offer another of the very few genuine original Russian sideplate tractor cap Maxim guns in the NFA registry. Dolf Goldsmith stated to this cataloger over ten years ago that he was only aware of five original specimens registered for private ownership in the United States. This cataloger still has not yet seen as many as five registered true C&R eligible original tractor cap guns, but this IS one of them. This gun also has many matching parts including receiver, top cover (1944 dated), feed block, backplate, fusee cover, check lever, and trunnion. Muzzle is un-numbered and includes an extremely rare muzzle cover. Rear mounting pin present on chain attached to bottom plate. No lock present but these are readily available. Charging handle and oil brush caps are un-numbered. This gun retains the original, “spring plates” at the trunnion in front of the top cover. Electronic NFA registry indicates “RUSSIAN FEDERATION” in the manufacturer’s block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original blue and original painted dull green water jacket. Blue finish is thinning to a gray patina on the steel muzzle. Some thinning to the blue on the sideplates, but considering where this gun was made and likely used, the condition is remarkable. There are a couple small dents in the water jacket, with the noticeable one being about 4” forward of the trunnion on the lower right side. There are other very minor nicks and dings to the water jacket as well as some discernible scratches to the painted surfaces. The gun has some accumulated dust in the recessed areas. Wood handles on backplate near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an original tractor cap Maxim with original Russian sideplate. If there are other registered fully transferable specimens out there this cataloger has not seen, would love to see pictures of them. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-12-193.
