Mauser manufactured MG-42 machine gun marked “D.F.” and “ar” with Nazi proofs on receiver and other various places which indicates 1944 manufacture by Mauser Borsigwald. Other Nazi proof marks in evidence are “cof” (Eickhorn) on un-numbered top cover, with very clear Nazi eagle proof marks. Feed tray also marked “cof”. The gun has a post-war albeit German handgrip assembly as well as non-matching wire reinforced wooden buttstock with added stock number. Barrel, bolt, and bipod are also post-May 1945 but are all in outstanding condition. European stock numbers in evidence on various parts. No anti-aircraft flip-up post parts present at rear sight. Nine Nazi-Era belt segments with one starter tab included in an original metal ammo can. One .308 top cover, one .308 barrel in carrier, two mainsprings, and spare bipod assembly are also included. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent lustrous refinish with some noticeable polishing to the metal and some typical “filling in” of spots which had loss finish prior to the refinish. Feed tray is numbered “51”. This gun has exceptionally fine and tight rivets and the condition of the receiver indicates it has not been shot a great deal. Mechanics are crisp, smooth, and positive. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is likewise near excellent. This is a full-auto-only machine gun. This is a truly very attractive and clean MG-42 machine gun. Original German World War II parts are readily available for these guns, and it would be straightforward to acquire the parts to make this gun all pre-May 1945 for display, and then to be able to change the parts over for when one wanted to take this gun out to the range. This was the "State-of-the-art" general-purpose German machine gun of World War II, and remained in service in Europe after the war for many years. Anybody who has watched World War II films, or been a member of the machine gun collecting community knows how impressive these guns are on the firing line. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2021-04-004
