Extremely fine condition Colt 1921 Thompson machine gun without compensator. Upper and lower assemblies match serial number. 1921 parts verified inside receiver. Includes one original "NEW YORK, NY" 1920s patent date "L" drum. Anchor proof mark present at front of buttstock. Early square slot Thompson with "AUT-ORD-CO" bullet logo forward of rear sight. This Thompson is the first of a consecutively numbered pair which was delivered to Charleston, West Virginia in April, 1921 and subsequently sold to the Winding Gulf Colliery in August of that same year. The Winding Gulf Colliery paid their employees in a special scrip and some of this scrip is included with this gun. Both of these Thompson machine guns are being offered separately in this sale. The Colt Thompson machine gun exhibits the highest quality of fit and finish of any Thompson ever produced. They are as much elegant works of art in high condition as this one is, as they are enjoyable and utilitarian. Overall appearance and finish is very fine to extremely fine. Deep lustrous original blued finish turning somewhat grey patina with very faint, barely discernible roughness at the high edge of the lower assembly with a couple of scratches to the finish. Wood is also extremely fine with only the lightest of handling marks. Buttplate very fine with a little bit of mottling loss of finish but generally quite vibrant. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is very fine with some light frosting in grooves. Third Model "L" drum in extremely fine condition with original finish. This is an exceedingly handsome Thompson that has obviously been very well cared for. This gun and its mate being offered in the same sale have been together ever since they were first sold over 98 years ago and constitutes a tremendous opportunity for the advanced Thompson collector. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
