Interesting Colt Pocket Navy with 4 -1/2" octagon barrel. Single action .38 rimfire conversion revolver made by Colt Firearms circa 1873 to 1875. Barrel with Colt New York address and removed loading lever with unplugged hole. 5-shot cylinder with Stagecoach scene and double numbered with neither number matching frame (often the case with these guns). Unmarked wedge with frame, barrel, trigger guard, and butt all marked with serial number 19988 / "IP" (IP meaning unknown). Case hardened frame with no loading gate is marked on left with "PAT. JULY 26, 1871 / PAT. JULY 2,1872" with "36 CAL" stamped on brass trigger guard near left grip. Walnut 1-piece grips with nickel finished brass frame. These late guns were made to use up remaining 1849 parts. CONDITION: Overall good with traces of blue and case coloring with balance fading to a silvery patina. Brass parts have nickel finish in protected areas with under 10% remaining. Traces of original varnish with light handling marks. Visible rifling with crisp mechanics. DLM
