Caliber .50 bore, Barrel length 32”. This style of rifle was very popular during the western expansion for pioneers embarking West from St Louis during the mid -19th century. It was the style rifle made famous in the shops of Samuel Hawkin in St. Louis. Features the popular 50 caliber with a heavy octagon barrel that measures one half inch on the flats. Single shot, percussion with wind drift front and rear sights, one piece walnut half stock with iron forend tip. Features brass butt plate, trigger guard and patch box. All iron furniture and barrel are a dark brown patina. Replaced rod is secured by two thimbles with a solid under rib. Wood stock is very good, some chipping around lock plate and small crack at forend cap. Repaired crack running along the base of forend from cap to guard. Usual and minor dents and chips at base of stock. Couple minor hairline cracks at stock and plate. Good example of 1850’s Plains rifle.
