Barrel length 42", .69 percussion. This rifle was manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal in 1851. Standard features include: iron mountings, all metal parts finished bright, steel ramrod with trumpet shaped head, bayonet lug on bottom of barrel, walnut stock. Lock plate has eagle with US and three barrel bands. Front band has integral sight, sling swivel at bow and middle band. Walnut stock is very good with usual minor dings, but quite nice. Barrel has some salt and pepper at breech. Uncleaned age spotting overall. Butt plate is stamped "US". Nice, clean, un-messed with 1842 musket that saw extensive use in the Civil War. Bore has not been rifled.
