Schuetzen style muzzleloading target percussion rifle marked on lock and possibly made by V.E. Boessel, Annapolis circa mid-19th century, on whom no information could be located. Rifle is set up for use in the European style Schuetzen matches of the late 19th century with blued 33" octagonal .50 caliber rifled barrel measuring 1" from barrel flat to barrel flat. Barrel is fitted with false muzzle, patent breech, globe front sight, homemade rear sight extension with Lyman peep sight, and plugged rear sight dovetail. Percussion maker marked lock with double set triggers. Walnut Schuetzen style stock with cheekpiece, brass Swiss style buttplate, and brass finger lever trigger guard. Stock has unusual decorative repair made from what looks like white enamel or epoxy. CONDITION: Overall fair with repairs to stock. Metal has 80% original blue with corner and handling wear. Entire gun has been coated with shellac. Good bore and sticky mechanics.
