First entering Japanese military service in 1921, the Type 10 grenade discharger was issued during the Second Sino-Japanese War and was 1 of 2 "light mortars" to be utilized by Japan during the course of World War II. With a maximum range of 175 meters, the Type 10 served more as a close fire support weapon than a mortar, featuring a 50mm smoothbore barrel which fired adapted Type 91 grenades. While officially succeeded by the Type 89, the Type 10 continued to see usage until the conclusion of the Second World War. This example was reactivated as a Destructive Device by Hamilton & Sons Firearms LLC in Cottonwood, AZ. Bottom of the mortar tube bears these reactivation markings. Mortar tube also bears Kanji characters denoting the year of manufacture "1939" followed by the Nagoya arsenal emblem and 2 inspectors proofs. All external numbers are matching, including the firing pin. Base of the tube bears a checkered adjustable gas vent for adjustment of ranges. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a few minor areas of wear as well as a couple of areas of light surface oxidation. Baseplate shows a few areas with loss on the edges, and a few welded repairs. A very nice example of a Japanese Type 10 grenade discharger that was utilized by Japan's military from 1921 to 1945. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. -MLW-
