Caliber .45-70 government, Barrel length 32'' 5/8''.Often referred to as the ram rod bayonet model as well as the Model 1889, this rifle was manufactured from 1889 to 1893. The breech block is stamped "U.S. Model 1884". The rear barrel is stamped with the letter "A". The lock plate is stamped "U.S. Springfield" with eagle. Left side of barrel is stamped with the "V.P." proof and eagle head. Has the standard 1884 rear sight and standard ram rod bayonet locking system. Two barrel bands both stamped "U". The buttplate is stamped "U.S.'' and is unit marked 52 1st SEP CO. Right side of stock is unit stamped "52 1 Wayne 159". Left side of the stock has a visible "S.W.P. 1891" cartouche for Samuel Porter. Has an original leather sling. Left side of stock is also stamped "Wayne 159". All metal surfaces are smooth pleasing blue brown patina. Stock is very good to excellent with no cracks but does have numerous dents and bruises. Action is fine. Strong clean rifle bore. An extremely nice, all original, unit marked, late Indian rifle.
