20 bore. 34 - 1/2”. Offered is a lovely, early 18th Century Side by Side, smooth bore, double hammer, fowling piece. Features octagon to round barrels that are engraved at breech with inlay and stamped “Canon Tordu” on top flat. Has double hammers and side plates, stamped “F. Chocst”. The walnut stock is beautifully checkered at wrist with ornate carvings with incised cheek piece. For-end is incised as well, and has a hand carved wood trigger guard. Has an ornate brass rod thimble on for-end with two additional iron thimbles. Has a front sling swivel with rear sling stud. Brass butt plate with decorative top tang, double triggers, single barrel wedge. Stock is in excellent condition with small expert repair on left side of for-end. Metal is a gray - brown patina. No visible dents in barrels. Has a small blade front sight with engraving and inlay. Fine bore and actions. This smooth bore is of the highest quality, and was obviously manufactured for someone of wealth and fame.
