25" barrel in caliber .44-40. A total of 3,810 of these rifles were manufactured from 1883 to 1885. This three year production came to a halt when Winchester confronted the Colt hierarchy that this rifle would lead to the production of handguns by the Winchester firm, thus production abruptly ceased. This rifle is standard in all respects and features full octagon barrel, full magazine, walnut stock, and rifle buttplate. The Colt legend can be found on top barrel flat. Has the original distinctive sporting leaf rear sight. The front sight blade was replaced with what appears to be an old coin. Razor sharp edges on barrel flats. The gun was originally offered in a blue finish, but all metal parts on this rifle are a clean gun metal color with some dark aging. Has walnuts tocks. Forearm has the usual 1/4" chip on right side at frame and a silver repair hairline crack. Buttstock has been freshened up, is shy to metal at wrist, and has a pinned repair on left side. Very strong rifled bore with minor black powder abrasion. Fine action.
