Curved fullered steel blade marked with Ames markings on left side of ricasso and stamped "US/ J.F./ 1865" on right side of ricasso. Standard brass hilt with two branches and leather wrapped grip with strand of twisted brass wire. Nickel plated steel scabbard complete with original black leather sword hanger with brass fittings. Back of hanger mount stamped "R.I.A.". CONDITION: Good. Blade shows some edge wear and a mostly polished surface with some grey spotting. Brass retains a mellow patina and shows some scattered marks from use. Grip very good with some touch up to finish. Scabbard retains approximately 40% original nickel finish. Hanger retains approximately 40-50% black finish with some cracking. A very nice, as found and original Civil War Cavalry saber.
